FINAL SCORE: WESTVIC 3 – 4 OLD XAVERIANS
GOAL SCORERS: MICHAEL CHURCHER (2), MAX FERRIER
A last-minute goal by Old Xaverians gave them a dramatic victory over WestVic in their Vic League 1 hockey Elimination Final.
The game was an arm wrestle throughout with both sides creating plenty of opportunities. Old Xaverians were first to score with a field-goal in the 28th minute. WestVic responded through Max Ferrier seconds before half-time.
Lachlan Hansford earned a penalty stroke immediately upon the resumption of play in the second half, which was converted by Michael Churcher. Old Xaverians reclaimed the lead with 2 goals in quick succession with 10 minutes remaining.
Churcher converted another penalty stroke minutes later and the game looked to be going to a shootout. Old Xaverians had the last say however, with a field-goal in the final minute to earn a Preliminary Final appearance and end WestVic’s season.
FINAL SCORE: WESTVIC 4 – 0 KBH BRUMBIES
WestVic won their way through to the Grand Final with a dominant 4-0 victory against Kew-Box Hill. WestVic started strongly with multiple chances to open the scoring early in the first half. WestVic were unable to score by the break and went in at 0-0 with all the momentum.
The floodgates opened in the second half with four goals scored, including Tim O’Sullivan scoring twice as WestVic ran away with the game and booked themselves in for the Grand Final in a fortnight.
WestVic Reserves will face the winner of the Preliminary final, with the Grand Final to be played on 16th September.
