WestVic have secured a finals berth with 3 rounds remaining after a fighting out a close draw against Mornington. The result consolidates WestVic’s position in the top four and will see them participate in the finals for the second successive year.

With an unprecedented 6 players away representing Victoria at the Australian Country Championships in Berri, South Australia, WestVic’s depth was tested.

WestVic had the better of the attack throughout the first half and Michael Churcher gave WestVic the lead with a penalty corner flick in the 19th minute. Mornington capitalised on a WestVic defensive error to reply on the cusp of half-time.

Churcher scored again at the resumption of play to place WestVic in the lead once more. Defending stoutly, WestVic denied Mornington any significant chances to score until they broke through with a penalty corner goal two minutes from full-time.

FINAL SCORE: WESTVIC  3 – 1 MORNINGTON

A depleted WestVic played well to defeat Mornington by 2 goals in the Reserves, and preparing themselves for a deep run into finals.

 

NEXT GAME

WestVic are off to the State Netball Hockey Centre to face Gippsland Bulls in Round 16.
