MEN’S VIC LEAGUE 1 V PEGS
FINAL SCORE: WESTVIC 1 – 1 PEGS
GOAL SCORERS: MICHAEL CHURCHER
WestVic have drawn consecutive games after a one-all finish at PEGS in Vic League 1 Men’s hockey. The better side for most of the game, WestVic had to settle for a point after again failing to convert their opportunities.
The first quarter was an even affair as both teams struggled to create meaningful scoring chances. WestVic began to take control in the second quarter but found it difficult to attack with PEGS sitting behind the ball defensively.
Finding WestVic’s midfield difficult to penetrate in the second half, last season’s grand-finalists PEGS resorted to long overhead passing, which failed to create any decent chances for the home side. Against the run of play PEGS were awarded a penalty stroke, which was converted to give them an unlikely lead. From there it was all WestVic as the away side attacked in waves. Michael Churcher finally registered WestVic’s first goal through a penalty corner strike. Despite further chances on goal, WestVic were unable to take the lead and the game finished as a draw.
FINAL SCORE: WESTVIC 2 – 1 PEGS
WestVic registered its first win of the season, with a well-deserved 1-goal win at PEGS. Dalton Barby and Liam Turnbull scored for the visitors.
WestVic will have their first home game of the season against newly promoted Bayside in Round 4.
