At the end of 2017 Hockey Ballarat and WestVic had a vision to develop an Under 14 representative team. As Hockey Ballarat was growing rapidly from U10s, there were some talented players beginning to shine through, but limited ways for them to continue to develop. It was important to keep developing talent in Ballarat, so players were not lost to Melbourne based clubs

WestVic decided to enter an Under 14 team into the Hockey Victoria competition in early 2018 where they were placed in the Pennant Division. After an impressive start to the season they were promoted quite early to Shield B, the second highest division in Victoria and remained competitive throughout the remainder of the season.

Now entering the second year of the Under 14 team the players had more of an understanding of the quality of Hockey Victoria competitions, and a year to develop their skills.

After having a great start to season 2019 the Under 14s have been promoted once again to Shield A, the top division in Victoria.

The promotion of the Under 14s adds to the quality of WestVic’s junior programs. The Under 16 girls team is currently in the Ron Penpraze Shield Division for the 4th straight year, competing with the best junior girls teams in the state. The Under 16 boys team took out the Under 16 mixed Shield B competition in 2018 and are off to a great start in 2019, winning two of their first three games.
