FINAL SCORE: WESTVIC 2 – 4 WERRIBEE
GOAL SCORERS: TAMMY HANSFORD, IMOGEN NOONE
The WestVic Women have made their push for a top four finish in Hockey Victoria’s Vic League One competition more difficult, with a loss to 9th placed Werribee on Saturday.
The loss leaves the team in 6th place, with increasing pressure to win their next run of games to ensure they remain competitive within the competition. WestVic allowed Werribee to gain a head start early on in their match on Saturday, conceding three field goals in the first 11 minutes of the match. They replied to the first Werribee goal (at the 5 minute mark) quickly, with Tammy Hansford converting a Penalty Corner within the minute. But that was to be the only score in the first half for the home side. Werribee would score again in the 27th minute, heading into the half time break with a 4-1 lead.
WestVic regrouped and performed stronger in the second half, with the defence working continuously to prevent further Werribee attacks. At the other end of the field Tammy Hansford, Imogen Noone, Teresa Ford and Tessa Noone linked well and persisted with their attacking pressure on the Werribee defenders. WestVic’s second goal for the day came in the final 6 minutes, with a chain of passes down the right side of play seeing the ball get to squad captain Tessa Noone who was able to find the net for the home team. The final score was 2-4 to Werribee.
