WOMEN’S VIC LEAGUE 1 V MONASH UNI

FINAL SCORE: WESTVIC 5 – 1 MONASH UNI

GOAL SCORERS: TAMMY HANSFORD, IMOGEN NOONE

The WestVic women denied Monash Uni a finals spot with a huge win in Ballarat.

Monash were in the hunt for finals, being only two points behind 4th placed Mornington, but a massive win by WestVic saw their finals hopes disappear.

WestVic started strongly with an early penalty corner goal from captain Tessa Noone inside the first 2 minutes. Monash was able to level the scores just 7 minutes later, and a shootout looked on the cards, but it was all WestVic from then on. Mindee Stone was able to score just before half time to give WestVic a 2-1 lead into the break.

10 minutes into the second half a goal from Mikenna Papworth made a win look all the more likely, taking a 3-1 lead. Monash Uni managed to get more control of the ball but couldn’t find an avenue to goal, and WestVic began to take control once more. Goals from Teresa Ford and a second for Mindee Stone just before full time meant WestVic took a huge win.

Although finals aren’t on the card, WestVic currently sit 6th, and if results go their way next week could jump to 5th, and they will take great belief into season 2019.
